HGSRC Juniors: Match#6

Match Reports for Sunday 24 January

Match Report for HGSRC 2 vs Wycombe 1 by Matt O'Regan.  Team: Matt O’Regan, James Holland, Matty Gallagher, Alex O’Regan, Matt Holland

A lack of availability left the top four as normal (Matt O'R, James H, Matty G and Alex O'R) but Matt Holland was roped in at number 5 for the second team. To be honest Matt Holland coming in created one of the best matches! At number 5 it was Matt Holland 2-0 down against Gina Mullis but fighting spirit meant Matt won the last 3 games 11-5, 11-9, 11-6. A brilliant start for the second team.

At number 4 a big pressure game between JHGS U15 number 5, Kieran Mystery, and our very own Alex O'Regan; with the last time they met Alex winning 3-0 in a good game. Kieran had had a lot in his ear about my little brother beating him!!! Alex however was returning from injury and didn't have the movement or performance to beat Kieran and a 3-0 win for Kieran meant it was 1-1 when 2's and 3's went on.

At 3, Matty G had no problems winning 3-0 with a solid performance winning 11-9, 12-10 and 11-5 and meaning Holmer green were 2-1 up in matches with only 2 to play.

At 2, James Holland picked a tough opposition. James was facing the 2015 regional runner up and U17 56th in the country. James put up a fight but it was Nick who won in straight games 11-6, 11-4 and 11-6.

So it was all down to the number 1's. It was another few Matts, Matt O'Regan vs Mattie Hewlett, a John Hampden battle between their U19's number 3 (Hewlett) vs U15's number 3 (O'Regan). The Wycombe number 1 strode into a lead of 2 games to love 12-10 and 11-4. However, I wasn't happy with that and an inspirational talk from father gave me the determination to win the next game 11-7 and then fend off match point at 11-10 and win the 4th game 14-12 to leave it a one game shoot out. Winner takes all!!!!

Unfortunately it was the Wycombe number 1 who had the energy and clever play left, Mattie Hewlett winning 11-5 in the fifth meaning a 3-2 win for Wycombe, or in other words 15 - 8 to Wycombe. A good fight from all!!!!!

Match Report for HGSRC 4 vs HGSRC 3 by Andy Carr.  HGSRC 4 Team: Bertie Carr, Jessica Martin, Lucy Herritty, Finn Andrews, Hamza Juma. HGSRC 3 Team: Sarah Jackson, Rachel Albin, Konrad Pompe, Simon Jackson, Dominic Holland

Holmer Green 4’s (Home) played Holmer Green 3’s on Sunday in a very convivial atmosphere. There was some great squash played, with some newcomers to the 4th’s – namely Lucy Herrritty and Hamza Juma.

Everyone played very strong games albeit against friends and colleagues that were just too strong for them on the day - all games ending on 3-0. But all showed how much their games have improved - so well done to them.

Jessica Martin played Rachel Albin, and while the match went to Rachel 3-0, again Jessica played some lovely squash. Bertie Carr unfortunately had to pull out with with an injury, which meant that the 4ths lost 0-5 to the 3rds. But a good afternoon’s squash was had by all.

Match Report for HGSRC 5 vs Farnham Common.  Team: James MacLarnon, Alistair Macintyre, Shristi Ghosh, Adam Badrick, Joel Jackson

A newly formed 5th team put up a great fight against Farnham Common. They may not have won; however the game scores indicated that they all played extremely well and gave their opponents a good run for their money.

Well done to Alistair for taking a game. James and Joel were both very unlucky not to have taken one too with a game score of 13-11 and 12-10 respectively. A fantastic effort from you all – well done.
